Released: January 20, 2018

The Island Storm took home a thrilling 90-84 victory against the Saint John Riptide on Saturday night at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.

The Storm started strong on the shooting success of Franklin Session and Torrence Dyck.  Malcolm Miller’s high-powered 12-point first quarter kept the Riptide in the game, but the Storm ended the first quarter with a 24-23 lead.

Session led the charge in another close quarter.  Despite some Storm foul trouble, they were able to take a 53-50 lead at the half on Session’s 17-point first half.

Mareik Isom and Miller helped the Riptide begin to crawl back in the third quarter.  The Riptide shot 80 per cent from the free throw line, outscoring the Storm by six and heading into the fourth quarter up 72-72.

Poor three-point shooting hurt the Riptide, who only managed 9-points in the fourth quarter. Session continued to lead the way for the Storm who doubled the Riptide in the quarter and finished with a 90-84 win.

The Storm will be back at home against the Halifax Hurricanes at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28.
